As you all know I will be leaving the country and traveling to the Philippines in just a couple of months. I like to think of it as an opportunity for soul searching, connecting with the Filipino culture, and reconnecting with my family members. Follow along with me as I share what I’ve explored and have yet to explore on the beautiful islands of Philippines.
For a week, I will be traveling to the far north of the island where it all started; where I was conceived by my beautiful mother and raised for a little over a year until I moved to O’ahu, Hawaii. My travels will be based around Claveria, Cagayan. I’m sure it’s going to be a hell of an adventure having to travel numerous miles away from the Philippine capital of Manila. There I will learn to relive the very minimalistic lifestyle. My mother would tell me her childhood stories where they barely had any money to spend. She was raised to be a strong and independent woman. She’d tell me how she cooked her own food, did her own laundry, traveled to the local markets and bought food for everyone in the family. And where education wasn’t the best, they did what they could with what they got. That is what I admire most about the Filipino culture. Filipinos are relentless, responsible, independent, and most of all… I consider them heroes from the past.
I hope you get to enjoy my travel logs and photographs as much as I will.
